The History
We have tailored our breeding program to the western performance disciplines of reining and reined cowhorse. Our philosophy centers on the belief that exceptional performers emerge from elite mares. We are dedicated to identifying and acquiring mares of unparalleled quality, as well as procuring embryos originating from these great mares.
Our emphasis is on assessing pedigree, conformation, soundness, and the overall temperament of our horses to inform our breeding decisions. As dedicated breeders and proud owners of show horses, we engage in a meticulous process that spans from annual brainstorming sessions to evaluating stallions, mares, and their offspring both inside and outside the showpen. This thoughtful evaluation continues over the course of four years, culminating in the highly anticipated Futurity Finals night. Our commitment to excellence extends beyond our individual efforts, as we collaborate closely with a network of professionals, including trainers, veterinarians, farriers, universities, stallion owners, and fellow breeders. Through these partnerships, we continually strive to enhance the quality of our horses, ensuring that each generation surpasses the one before.
In addition to our comprehensive breeding program, we consistently have a diverse range of horses available at different stages of development. About The Founder
Brooke Wharton
Born and raised on the Waggoner Ranch, home of Poco Bueno, Brooke started to develop a passion for horses at a young age. She grew up as part of the 6th generation of the Ranch, surrounded by the Quarter Horses her family has been breeding since the founding of the American Quarter Horse Association. After exploring many disciplines – gymkhana in high school, jumping in college and while living in Europe, and racing in the Mongol Derby in 2017 – she eventually focused in on the reining and reined cowhorses her family’s ranch was raising. She moved back to work on the ranch’s horse division in 2014 and started BMW Quarter Horses in 2016, transitioning from horses with a ranching influence to the highest levels of performance horses.
Wanting to further her education as a professional in the industry, Brooke got her Masters at Texas A&M University in Equine Industry Management, a unique program that mixes advanced equine studies with business. As part of her Masters, she spent a year in Lexington, Kentucky, working for the #1 Thoroughbred sales agency, Taylor Made Farm. She learned many different aspects of the racehorse industry while there before returning to Texas to figure out how to apply the things she learned to the western performance horse industry.
Through advice from her mentors and critical assessment of her developing breeding program, Brooke has seen success in the western performance horse industry very quickly. It is important to her to tie her family’s Quarter Horse foundation into today’s elite performers, and she was able to do so with the second foal crop that she bred independent from the ranch when Ten Thirty won the 2021 NRHA Open Futurity. He is out of Dainty Little Step, a mare bred and owned by the Waggoner Ranch, who was also the first reining horse Brooke competed on. Dainty Little Step was the first horse Brooke bought from the ranch and has been the cornerstone of her breeding program. She added half of Lonely At The Top to her broodmare band in 2020 and had the thrill of that mare’s first foal to show also winning the NRHA Open Futurity in 2023. Brooke has also bred Open Snaffle Bit Futurity Finalists in consecutive years.
Accomplishments
Brooke is an active member of AQHA, NRHA, and NRCHA, amongst others, serving on multiple boards and committees to give back to the associations she’s involved with. She is always looking for how to improve her breeding program, seeking out elite performing mares that are backed by phenomenal pedigrees.

When she started BMW Quarter Horses, Brooke wanted a brand that was clean and iconic. She also wanted to incorporate her family’s ranching history. After many sketches, trial and error, and tweaks from friends both in and out of the horse industry, the Triple W brand emerged. On first glance it looks like one cohesive design, but if you look a little longer you can see it’s made up of three Ws. This is a nod to the brand that had been in her family for over 150 years, the three backwards Ds of the Waggoner Ranch.
